Hello. I recently bought a used but fairly new iphone 4 (GSM) 8 gb. When I bought it, it didn't have a sim card and had all content and settings erased. It is in setup mode. When I turn it on, it starts taking me through setup such as select language, country or region, and so on. When it gets to select network, thats as far as I can go. When I connect to the computer and itunes pops up, it tells me to insert a valid sim card. My question is, can this phone be jailbroken in its current state? I only want to use it for playing games and music. If you need anymore details, I will be glad to tell you what I know. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Should be able to be jailbroken, u will have to download a custom .ipsw and put the phone into dfu mode. Search for ios5 jailbreak on the forum and u can find the link to download redsn0w, or www.ih8sn0w.com and use sn0wbreeze |

Thanks for the quick reply. I did what you said and download the iphone3,1_5.0_9A334_Restore firmware and redsn0w_win_0.9.9b6. Everything showed to be downloading onto my iphone 4 (GSM) until it got to the reboot. While it was downloading, it showed on my phone a pineapple with a umbrella (best I remember) and said something bout jailbreak. Also a bunch of typed info strolled from the bottom of the screen to the top. Now it is stuck with the apple logo and after a few minutes it will go from the apple logo to the little circle thing like its about to turn off but it just freezes on the circle. I've tried to reboot but it says no info fetched. So I'm not sure what steps to take now. If anyone has any suggestions or ideas, I would really appreciate it. This is the first time I have ever tried to jb a phone and as you can see, I am really lost here. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

U sure u followed everything corrctly? The jb is tethered, so u may need to boot tethered using redsn0w... U may also need to do the ultrasn0w unlock first, try going through the steps again and see if it works ot for u

Hello everyone. Well I'm still having the same trouble as before. Its stuck on the apple logo, then after a few minutes it goes to the spinning wheel and freezes on it. To make matters worse, itunes accidentally got deleted from my laptop along with all the sync info. I re-downloaded itunes but when I plug in my iphone, it won't pick it up. Now if I can even get my phone in dfu mode, itunes wont recognize it. Anyone have any suggestions or have I just got a expensive paper weight? Lol I really hope I haven't bricked my iphone 4 but I'm really running out of options here. If I could just get it where I could use it for gaming and mp3 player I would be extremely happy. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. I would really appreciate it. Thanks for your help.

hello everyone. Well, I'm still stuck at this same problem. I tried to jailbreak my iphone 4 (GSM) with redsnow and it got stuck on the apple logo. Meanwhile, alot of info and programs got deleted from my pc including the info where my iphone and laptop got synced. Itunes also got deleted. I reinstalled Itunes but it won't pick up my phone and with my phone being in its current state (froze on apple logo), I can't get my pc to pick up my phone when I plug it in via usb cable to sync them back together. Has anyone got any ideas what I need to do to get my phone or is it bricked forever? If I could just find a way to get my phone and laptop synced back together but I'm totally out of ideas. Does anyone know of a way to sync a iphone 4 and laptop when the iphone is stuck on the apple logo? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

@Lawayne1966: Hmmmm..... i am guessing your phone is jailbroken, but you haven't tether booted it yet. Go into redsnow. Turn it up, and go into "EXTRAS" instead of jail breaking option. Here there would be many options present, click on "JUST BOOT" option and be ready to put your phone into DFU mode. immediately after clicking just boot, first press power button, hen simultaneously power and home button and then the home button for accessing the DFU mode. Once you do that, your phone would be booted tethered and jailbroken  Then just install Installous from hackulo in cydia. One more thing which i figured out the hard way..... NEVER let iTunes sync your phone automatically after you have installed software from Installous. Because it will just erase it for some reason. Cancel auto sync when it starts, right click on the phone icon in iTunes, choose "Transfer Purchases" from the options. Then iTunes would be updated with the JB software  |

Thanks for all the info. I finally got it figured out. I had bought a usb cable from dollar general and it wasn't doing its job. It will charge the phone but it will not let itunes or any jb software recognize the phone. I borrowed another usb cable from a friend and I fixed my problem. Thanks again for everyones help. It was most valuable.

Hello everyone. I have jailbroke my iphone with redsnows ios5 tethered jb. In order to have an untethered jb, should I just go into cydia and look for and install the corona 5.0.1 untether package or should I download the newest version of redsnow and re-jailbreak my phone? Will I be able to turn my phone off when I want to and turn it back on without having to do a reboot? I don't have a sync cable for my iphone so I'm hoping that since I have wifi that I can simply go into cydia and install the the corona 5.0.1 untether package and fix this reboot problem. Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.....

Forgive my ignorance. But you sound like you are still on 5.0. Corona will only work on 5.0.1. So, you will need to upgrade to that before you can use Corona, which will be pointless, as when you are updated to 5.0.1, you can just run Redsn0w and you will be untethered.  |

Hi All, I have a similar issue here.
I got my iphone 4s from AT&T before moving to Asia, and I need to unlock it to be able to use it with other SIMs.
Though the new local SIM did not work on it, I was still happily using the device for apps and other purposes.
But then the mess started when I downgraded the OS from 5.1 to 5.0.
Result? Now it only says "NO SIM CARD INSTALLED - Insert a valid SIM with no PIN Lock to activate iPhone".
When I insert the SIM, it does not work.
What do I do ?
Please help.
